A Good Time To Sell A Cookbook

Posted by Lona on March 1, 2011 in Book Industry

There are windows in the book industry, times when certain books have a better chance of selling than others.

There are some genres, of course, that are above and beyond the law; relationship books, romances, religious books and children’s books are always bought, no matter what the industry is currently ‘hot’ for. However, Harry Potter opened the door for witches and wizard specific children’s books, and Twilight of course led to the overabundance we currently enjoy of teen vampire novels.

Back to the point.

Right now, it seems, the nation is cooking. This makes sense – and probably could have been predicted. We’ve been in an economic slump. Thus, people stopped going out to eat as much. That, of course, meant they started eating in, which eventually exhausted any novice’s recipe stash in short order.

This also explains why Food Network’s viewer-ship is up. All this adds up to one simple fact – the Big Five are buying cookbooks.

So time to get those proposals out!
